Premier League 2026/27 – Matchweek 4
Saturday, 12 September 2026 | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
Tottenham enter Matchweek 4 under considerably more pressure than anyone expected after their enormous summer rebuild. Roberto De Zerbi's team remain winless and, remarkably, have yet to score a Premier League goal. Everton arrive in North London unbeaten, having collected five points from their opening three matches.
There is therefore a clear contrast. Spurs have greater individual quality and home advantage but are struggling to turn possession into chances. David Moyes' Everton have been less spectacular but far more stable.
Where Tottenham Stand
Tottenham's Premier League results:
Brentford 3–0 Tottenham
Tottenham 0–2 Newcastle United
Nottingham Forest 0–0 Tottenham
Their record is alarming:
1 point | 0 goals scored | 5 conceded
There was at least some defensive improvement against Forest. Spurs recorded their first point and first clean sheet of the season. The attacking performance was considerably less encouraging.
Tottenham had 59% possession and 11 attempts but failed to register a single shot on target. After spending more than £300 million during the summer, Spurs have become the only Premier League team yet to score this season.
That distinction matters. Tottenham are not simply finishing poorly. They are struggling to consistently manufacture high-quality chances.
Where Everton Stand
Everton's opening league results:
Everton 2–0 Crystal Palace
Bournemouth 1–1 Everton
Everton 2–2 Manchester United
Their record:
5 points | 5 goals scored | 3 conceded
They remain unbeaten.
Moyes' team have also demonstrated impressive resilience.
James Tarkowski scored a stoppage-time equaliser at Bournemouth before Ainsley Maitland-Niles repeated the trick against Manchester United, striking late to rescue another point. Everton therefore arrive with something Spurs currently lack: belief that they can change matches late.
Their 4–0 League Cup victory at Preston also means they have scored nine times across their four competitive matches this season. The performances have not always been dominant, but Everton are difficult to beat and comfortable operating without prolonged possession.
That should suit them here.
Betting Patterns Insights
On raw form alone, Everton look like the stronger side. But this is precisely where pattern analysis requires caution. Three consecutive matches without scoring does not mean Tottenham are now permanently incapable of scoring. In fact, the longer a sequence continues, the more dangerous it becomes to simply extrapolate it indefinitely.
There are several reasons to expect Tottenham's attacking numbers eventually to improve:
home advantage,
Solanke's improving fitness,
the enormous amount of attacking talent added during the summer,
and Everton's historically poor record at this stadium.
The more interesting question may therefore be when Tottenham score, rather than whether they score.

Final Verdict
Tottenham are better than their current record suggests. But eventually that needs to become visible on the scoreboard.
More than £300 million of summer investment has produced one point and zero Premier League goals after three matches. Against Nottingham Forest, Spurs controlled 59% possession and attempted 11 shots without putting one on target. Everton present an awkward test.
Moyes' team are unbeaten, have scored in every league match and have already rescued two results with stoppage-time equalisers. They will not panic if Tottenham dominate possession.
But Spurs' historical dominance of this fixture at home is difficult to ignore. Everton have won only once in their last 17 Premier League visits, while Tottenham have won the last five. I expect De Zerbi to make attacking adjustments, with Solanke's involvement potentially important.
And I expect Tottenham finally to score. Whether that is enough to deliver their first victory is another question. Everton currently look considerably more stable and have enough counter-attacking quality to exploit Tottenham if the hosts become too aggressive. For that reason, the draw looks slightly more plausible than trusting either side outright.
