Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town Football Club, commonly known as Ipswich Town, is a professional English football club based in
Ipswich in the county of Suffolk, East Anglia.

The club currently competes in the Premier League, the highest tier of the English football league system.

Its home ground is Portman Road, which has a capacity of more than 29,000 spectators.

Ipswich Town was founded in 1878, became a professional club in 1936, and joined the Football League in 1938. It remains the only fully professional football club in Suffolk.

Golden era

The most successful period in Ipswich Town's history came under manager Bobby Robson, who led the club to FA Cup glory in 1978 and to victory in the 1980–81 UEFA Cup, one of the greatest achievements ever by a club of Ipswich's size.

Despite being based in a relatively small town, Ipswich Town has won both major domestic and European honours and remains one of the most respected historic clubs in English football.
