About Aston Villa

Aston Villa Football Club, commonly known as Aston Villa, is a professional English football club based in Birmingham, West Midlands. Founded in 1874, the club is one of the oldest and most successful teams in English football. Aston Villa was one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888 and has played its home matches at Villa Park since 1897. With a capacity of more than 42,000, Villa Park is among the largest football stadiums in England.

Aston Villa was also one of the 22 founding clubs of the Premier League in 1992 and remained in the top flight until relegation in 2016. The club returned to the Premier League after winning the 2018–19 EFL Championship play-offs.

One of the most decorated clubs in England, Aston Villa has won seven English league titles and seven FA Cups. The club is also one of only six English teams to have won the European Cup, lifting the trophy in 1982 after defeating Bayern Munich in the final. Villa has additionally won the UEFA Super Cup, making it one of England's most successful clubs in European competition.

Aston Villa's fiercest rivals are Birmingham City, with whom they contest the Second City Derby, one of English football's oldest local rivalries.

The club's traditional colours are claret shirts with sky blue sleeves, white shorts, and sky blue socks.

Since November 2022, Aston Villa has been managed by Spanish coach Unai Emery. Under his leadership, the club finished fourth in the Premier League during the 2023–24 season, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over four decades. In the 2025–26 season, Aston Villa won the UEFA Europa League, securing the club's first major trophy in 30 years and adding another prestigious European honour to its history.
